Conference Producer (Native Speaker of Bahasa Malaysia)
Our conference team is looking for a talented individual to join us in Singapore and work on our expanding portfolio of Malaysian conference programmes.
For the last eight years Alphabet Media has been organising senior level conferences on public sector modernisation in Asia Pacific. As part of our business expansion plans, the company is looking to recruit an additional conference producer based in Singapore.
FutureGov conferences cover the work of government, education and healthcare administrators to improve the productivity, governance and service delivery of their organisations. Our delegates are civil servants, and our content is based on exclusive interviews with senior officials, and the executives of technology companies. In this role, you will be responsible for putting together the programmes, and liaising with the key stakeholders, of our Malaysian conferences.
Therefore you should be a native speaker of Bahasa Malayisa, with good English language skills – because you will be speaking daily to senior government officials in Malaysia, as well as their international counterparts, and representatives of industry. Experience of organising events in Malaysia would be an advantage.
You will be responsible for developing conference topics into commercially-viable conferences, events and training courses through:
- Carrying out extensive market research into topics
- Interviewing senior officials and industry observers
- Producing and managing the conference programmes and content
- Writing programme and brochure copy
- Sourcing and recruiting experts as speakers
Desired Skills & Experience
- You must have experience of pulling together successful events in Malaysia, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of how to get things done.
- Malaysia is a big and colourful place, whilst Alphabet is a small and colourful place. We are looking for someone who can help keep things simple as we look to expand our relationships with Malaysia’s public sector.
- Our content relates to the role of IT in improving public sector performance. Are you comfortable talking to people about technology issues in Bahasa Malaysia? Do you understand the structure of the Malaysian public sector?
- The key trait of a successful conference researcher is the ability to engage with, and extract information from, our audience. You must have a proven ability to build rapport with senior executives in the private and public sector.
- Success in this job also depends on your ability to have successful telephone conversations: you must not be afraid to spend time on the phone.
- You will be working as part of a multinational team, split across multiple time zones. An ability to relate to international colleagues is essential.
- We run many government-to-government events in Southeast Asia, and in the wider region. You must be willing to travel to Malaysia and other locations from time-to-time – both for work, and training.
- Variety is the spice of life: Bahasa Malaysia is a mandatory requirement for this role, along with a strong grasp of English.
- Can you tell the time? Punctuality is a key part of the company culture, along with doughnuts.
- Sense of humour. You don’t have to be a comedian, but the bosses like it when you laugh at their jokes.
Next Steps
Please prepare your CV, a cover letter explaining how you meet the above requirements, and samples of your work to our Conference Director.

Journalist (Bahasa Malaysia-speaking) - Singapore
FutureGov Asia Pacific magazine, published by Alphabet Media, is looking for a talented Malay-speaking journalist to join our team in Singapore. As a regional media company with publishing, events, research and training activities throughout the Asia Pacific region, shortlisted candidates will need to demonstrate an internationally-oriented mindset.
FutureGov Asia Pacific magazine covers the modernisation of the government, education and healthcare sector across the region. We are a source of practical ideas for policymakers and senior officials to increase the productivity, transparency and service quality of their organisations. Our readers are public administrators, and our content is apolitical and largely focused successful examples of the role of IT in improving outcomes at the central, state, municipal and local government level.
In addition to being a native speaker of the Malay language, you need to be mature enough to understand, and cope with the different cultures of the Malaysian Government and a multi-national company. Rapport building skills are a must. Being a native from Malaysia would be an added advantage.
In this role, you will be responsible for generating content and research from Malaysia’s public sector, and in the wider region. You will also be turning your interviews into feature and news stories in English. This requires an ability to prioritise and analyse large amounts of information. You will also be assisting the development of our conferences, seminars and training courses for the Malay-speaking audience.
Desired Skills & Experience
- You must have experience. Or else be a brainbox who graduated top of your class from a good university. We have high standards, and you must have a track record of personal performance.
- We like to keep things simple. Short sentences, short words preferred.
- Our content relates to the role of IT in improving public sector performance. Are you comfortable writing about technology issues? Do you have domain experience of public sector issues?
- The key trait of a successful journalist is the ability to engage with interviewees. You must have a proven ability to build rapport with senior executives in the private and public sector.
- Our readers are interested in the opinions of the people we interview – you must be able to listen more than you talk.
- You will be working as part of a multinational team, split across multiple time zones. An ability to relate to international colleagues is essential.
- We run many government-to-government events in Malaysia, Singapore, and in the wider region. You must be willing to travel overseas from time-to-time.
- Our publication is written in British English ('International English’) – so you must have excellent English writing skills. You also need to be able to quickly turn an interview conducted in Malay into a well-written article in English.
- Sense of humour. You don’t have to be a comedian, but the bosses like it when you laugh at their jokes.
- Variety is the spice of life: regional languages beyond English and Malay are welcomed.
